Retrofitted Do 228 57+05 delivered

The German Armed Forces successfully complete their Do 228 fleet upgrade program.

Aerodata AG and its subsidiary OPTIMARE Systems GmbH are pleased to announce the delivery of the retrofitted maritime surveillance aircraft Do 228 id. 57+05. The aircraft was transferred from Aerodata AG in Braunschweig to the Naval Air Wing 3 in Nordholz on September 29, 2023, after having passed flight acceptance. The aircraft Do 228 id. 57+05 is the second of two aircraft being modernized at Aerodata.

Background:

In 2020, Aerodata AG and through subcontracting its subsidiary OPTIMARE Systems GmbH were contracted by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) for the modernisation of the mission equipment of the two German Dornier 228 maritime surveillance aircraft.

The project target was to increase the sustainability of the existing OPTIMARE MEDUSA® mission systems, the sensor suites, the communication systems, the spares package and the ground segment.

The German Armed Forces operate the two aircraft on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport for the Central Command for Maritime Emergencies in Cuxhaven to monitor the North and Baltic Sea with regard to marine pollution. Both special mission aircraft are based at the German Naval Air Wing 3, Nordholz, Germany. The extensive retrofit project took place over the past three years at Aerodata AG's premises at the Braunschweig-Wolfsburg Airport.
