Belgian maritime surveillance aircraft at OPTIMARE

The OPTIMARE team is pleased to report on the activites around the upgrade of the mission equipment of the Belgian maritime surveillance aircraft ident. OO-MMM of type Britten-Norman BN2A-21 Islander. The aircraft is currently in the OPTIMARE hangar at the Regional Airport Bremerhaven-Luneort for implementation of the mission system upgrade.

The activites include, among others, the installation of the OPTIMARE's airborne maritime surveillance system MEDUSA for enhanced mission management. Moreover, the aircraft's Side-Looking Airborne Radar (SLAR) system is being upgraded. The Mission Management System is composed of a new mission operator console hosting a new mission computer with the latest MEDUSA software suite installed.

The end user is the Management Unit of the North Sea Mathematical Models (MUMM) which is the 6th department of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences. The aircraft is used by MUMM in the framework of the Belgian North Sea Aerial Survey program.
