Certification of scientific systems on research aircraft

OPTIMARE cooperates since 2001 with the Office of Airworthiness of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Within this collaboration, OPTIMARE prepares the documents and submits them to the Office of Airworthiness for certification of the installation of scientific systems on research aircraft. This collaboration was initiated during joint efforts in support services by DLR and OPTIMARE on the polar research aircraft Polar2 & Polar4 owned by the Alfred Wegener Institute, Bremerhaven.

The collaboration between DLR and OPTIMARE was extended to HALO in 2008 due to the commissioning of the new high-altitude research aircraft HALO (High Altitude and LOng range research aircraft). OPTIMARE became integrated into the Office of Airworthiness of the DLR. Today, OPTIMARE submits the necessary documentation to demonstrate compliance with the airworthiness requirements directly to the Office of Airworthiness.

Over 20 experiments and/or campaigns were supported by OPTIMARE.

Service

We will support you during the integration of your systems on the HALO with:

  • Planning, modification and/or manufacturing of your systems while taking into account the special requirements for aircraft deployment.
  • Support of your systems during tests in the laboratory for testing electromagnetic compatibility (EMC); if requested, OPTIMARE will also provide pre-checks of your systems for potentially EMC-critical points.
  • Complete compilation of documents showing compliance with the airworthiness requirements; we also welcome your contribution to this process.
  • Submission of documentation to the Office of Airworthiness.
  • Applied stress analyses on our tensile test stand in Bremerhaven.
