Remote Sensing

The Remote Sensing Division represents the origin of the OPTIMARE group. This strategic business unit pursues the activities which started in 1991 with the foundation of OPTIMARE GmbH. OPTIMARE continues to develop, manufacture and integrate leading-edge technology for airborne remote sensing. The main focus lies in the environmentally relevant area of remote sensing of marine pollution.

OPTIMARE covers a worldwide and unique range of products and services. The flexible real-time data acquisition and processing system MEDUSA, as well as an extensive range of certified sensor technology for detection, mapping, quantification, and classification of marine pollution is representative of this division. Unique sensor systems, e.g. laser fluorosensors, infrared/ultraviolet line scanners, microwave radiometers, radar systems, camera systems, as well as the corresponding processing software have meanwhile achieved international recognition.

Major projects

Since 1991 OPTIMARE has been involved in a total of around 40 aircraft installations and campaigns. Find below carrier platforms of major past and current projects of the Remote Sensing Division.

Maritime patrol aircraft of EADS-CASA C-295 type for the Portuguese Airforce.
Spanish maritime surveillance aircraft of EADS-CASA CN-235 type.
Maritime surveillance aircraft of Dornier 228 type of the Netherlands Coast Guard (KUSTWACHT).
Coastal surveillance aircraft of Dornier 228 type of the Royal Thailand Navy.

The installation of the MEDUSA sensor suite into the German maritime surveillance system of type Dornier 228-212 is one of the most important reference projects of the company OPTIMARE.
